On January 7, 2025, Ms. Do Thi Lan Dai, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at Lac Hong University (LHU), led an initiative to bring support and Tet gifts to 20 victims of Agent Orange in Bien Hoa City. This heartfelt event also included the distribution of regular financial assistance for the third and fourth quarters of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
A Warm Gesture of Support
The ceremony was imbued with a spirit of sharing and care, highlighting the university's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. With a total donation value of 84 million VND, the initiative provided crucial support to those affected by the long-lasting impacts of Agent Orange (Dioxin). This compassionate effort not only alleviates the challenges faced by these individuals but also exemplifies the deep-seated values of humanity and solidarity embedded in LHU’s mission.
Connecting the Initiative to the SDGs
This act of kindness directly aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 1: No Poverty – By offering financial assistance and gifts, the initiative contributes to reducing the financial burden on vulnerable individuals and families.
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – Supporting victims of Agent Orange promotes social equity by addressing the needs of a marginalised group.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – By providing care and support, the project enhances the psychological and emotional well-being of recipients.
As part of its vision for the future, Lac Hong University integrates sustainability principles into its operations and educational framework. Through impactful community engagement projects like this, LHU inspires its students and staff to actively participate in building a more inclusive society.
In line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, LHU fosters awareness about pressing global issues and cultivates a culture of giving back. By sharing these practices with other institutions and integrating them into student learning, the university contributes meaningfully to the global sustainability movement.
The distribution of Tet gifts to victims of Agent Orange in Bien Hoa exemplifies how community engagement and sustainable development can go hand in hand. By addressing immediate needs while promoting long-term values of empathy and equity, LHU reaffirms its role as a catalyst for positive change in society.
