Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (21 June) commemorates the founding of the newspaper Thanh Nien by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc on 21 June 1925. In the history of Vietnamese journalism, as early as the 1860s, Gia Dinh Bao and several other newspapers were established in Saigon, Hanoi, and some other localities. However, Thanh Nien marked the beginning of a new journalistic movement: Vietnam’s revolutionary press. The newspaper upheld the revolutionary banner, expressed the will and aspirations of the Vietnamese nation, and clearly defined the direction of struggle for independence, freedom, and socialism.
In recognition of this significance, the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam issued Decision No. 52 dated 5 February 1985, designating 21 June annually as Vietnam Press Day, with the aim of enhancing the role and social responsibility of the press, strengthening the relationship between the press and the public, and reinforcing the Party’s leadership over the press.

On 21 June 2000, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Vietnam Press Day, at the proposal of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam agreed to officially name the day Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.
On the morning of 21 June 2023, PhD Nguyen Van Tan – Head of FAIE – presented a congratulatory flower arrangement to journalist Nguyen Van Viet – Head of the Vietnam News Agency’s Resident Office in Dong Nai Province on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (21 June 1925 – 21 June 2023).
